Been a while…
I can’t believe that it’s been exactly a year ago (this week) that Take the Proverbial officially started and I finished my course at college. What a year it’s been!
I’ve been working away at The Touch Agency for 8 months and although I haven’t had much time to work on designs for Take the Proverbial, there’s been a lot happening.
Over the next few months I am planning a BIG site overhaul on my personal website and will also start work on new Take the Proverbial designs. However, in the meantime I will blog about a few of the developments that have taken place in the last few months.
To start off, here is a wee picture of the hotel in Barcelona who have three Take the Proverbial prints in every room. It was a fun collaboration – it’s really exciting to see my artwork in Barcelona and to think that lots of different people will see it every day.
If you are ever in Barcelona, go take a look:
Hotel Vincci, C/ Josep Plà 69, 08019 Barcelona.

Take the Proverbial in Computer Arts
I have taken a few days to try to concentrate on getting Take the Proverbial back on track after a busy few weeks of freelance work.
My wee bit of self-promotion went super well today – I was really pleased that Computer Arts featured Take the Proverbial on their blog today.

Go and checkout the wee blog post here.

Press – The Scotsman Magazine 20/08/11
I was super pleased that my ‘When Life Hands You Lemons’ letterpress print made it into the Scotsman Magazine lifestyle section yesterday. Have a wee look at the article below.
It’s been a terrific week with a mention on Domestic Sluttery and now a wee article in the Scotsman, too.

Domestic Sluttery
Got a fab wee mention on uber blog Domestic Sluttery yesterday.
http://www.domesticsluttery.com/2011/08/when-life-hands-you-lemons.html

Domestic Sluttery
The home and lifestyle blog for women who have better things to do.
The Domestic Sluts like the finer things in life. We want our homes to look good, we want tasty food and we want to wear fabulous things. But we’re busy. And sometimes, we enjoy being a little bit lazy. We’d much rather go out dancing than stay in tidying up. Frankly, a five course meal sounds like far too much effort and our idea of ‘decorating’ is to hide a spaghetti stain on the sofa with a nice cushion.
We basically want to cheat our way to the good stuff.
We’re a UK-based blog, with writers across the country (all with their own tastes and opinions). We’re not a feminist blog, and we don’t for a minute think that cupcakes can save the world. But cake does taste nice. We want Domestic Sluttery to inspire our readers to try something new, whether that’s discovering an independent designer, or making a new cocktail.
The good stuff really doesn’t have to be difficult. -
Fruitmarket Gallery – DesignMarket
A few pictures of Take the Proverbial at the Fruitmarket Gallery’s DesignMarket in Edinburgh. Here’s hoping that the weather improves tomorrow and there are lots more visitors to the gallery.

Big thanks to Chris Dobson from Studio Alto for keeping me company this afternoon and for letting me take a wee break. You can also catch his fantastic work at the Fruitmarket Gallery all day tomorrow too.

Modern Proverb Competition Winner
To promote Take the Proverbial a little, I decided to hold a wee giveaway on Twitter – I asked lots of lovely tweeters for their submissions for a new modern proverb and the winner of the best submission would win a lovely letterpress print.

There were lots of great submissions, but the final winner submitted not one, not two, but three great modern proverbs.
Drum roll please……………for @papercutpanic.
Here are Kirsten’s great submissions and I am sure everyone will agree that she makes a very worthy winner:
‘Ask a silly question and you’ll get a Yahoo! Answer’
‘You are what you tweet’
‘All’s fair in love and World of Warcraft’
I think I like the last one best :D
Also, as today was such a beautiful sunny day in Edinburgh and I had an extra sunny disposition, I decided to give a ‘History Retweets Itself’ print to @thismanslife for his submission of ‘A watched progress bar never moves’.

If Kirsten and/or James are able to pop along to the Fruitmarket Gallery Design Market this weekend (both Saturday or Sunday), I’ll be happy to hand over the prints. Otherwise, if you can DM your postal address to me @take_proverbial I’ll post out to you as soon as possible.
Thanks again to everyone that took part. We’ll be having another competition when the website is ready to launch soon.
